Family Vacations

WARNING - PICTURE OVERLOAD
Moyes Vacation to Jackson Hole
In June Jeff and Ali were able to come back for a week and we were able to go as an extended family to Jackson Hole. We camped by the river and the kids thought it was great. It ended up being one of the coldest weekends of the summer. At night it was around 30 degrees, the kids looked like Eskimos, but never complained once of being cold. They didn't even care. It was still really cold during the day, so the first day we went to one of my favorite hikes. The whole family hiked around Jenny's Lake. It is such a beautiful hike. I couldn't believe how great the kids were. We weren't very prepared, so everyone walked or a parent had to carry them part of the way, but they didn't complain. Ben, of course, thought it was great. He was way ahead of everyone and thought the rest of us were really slowing him down. At the top there is a waterfall, but only Bryce, Ben, and Abby made it from our family, Grace was good, but not that good.
We stopped in Jackson that night to check out the sights. Ben was mesmerized by the elk horn arches. He had to take a picture of each arch, just in case one looked a little different.
The next day was still a little cool, so we drove to Yellowstone. Which was a little further than we thought, but the kids were good for riding in the car so long. We stopped at Old Faithful and just missed it, but we didn't mind because we had time to look around and let the kids stretch. The kids thought Old Faithful was really cool.
On our last day it was finally warm enough to ride the river. I decided to stay back with the kids with Ali and Kay, which ended up being a great decision. The river was running really fast and the flipped the boat. It was a very scary ride and I don't think any of them are ready to go again for a while. They couldn't get the boat back over and had to float downriver for quite a while before they were finally able to get it pulled off to the side. I'm glad they were all safe and really glad I didn't go.

Davis Vacation to Park City
Before school started we went to Park City with my family. There is always a lot to do there and we had a great time. We stayed in a condo and it was great to all stay together. But the best part was a park across the street. The kids had a blast running around and riding the wagon or stroller down the hill. But their favorite part was the fact that the park was somewhat of a dog park where the owners brought their dogs to run around. The boys had a blast playing with the dogs. When we got home he was telling Lynn and Kay that he really missed Mr. Tibs and Ernie. One day Ben a dog took a Frisbee and Ben got it back from the owner, the dog thought Ben was playing and Ben was running moving the Frisbee from one hand to the other while the dog chased him and jumped at the Frisbee, I wasn't there but everyone was laughing so hard.
The first day we went on a hike and it was so beautiful. It ended at Solitude lake and it was well worth the climb. The last 100 feet was quite steep, but everyone made it. At the top everyone had fun walking around and having a well deserved rest.
That night we walked through the Art festival. It was amazing at all the art work that was displayed. There were some beautiful painting and some really weired art work, but it was actually a lot of fun to walk through.
The next day we went to Park City and did a little shopping and got a few new school clothes for the kids. Then we went to watch the ski jumpers. It is such a fun show. You can go to the place where they practice for the Olympics and watch them jump off the ramps into a swimming pool. It is amazing the different tricks they can do while jumping off those ramps. Then that night we went to the alpine slides. Ben didn't want to try it, but Abby did. I was nervous to have her ride the chair lift, but Bryce said she loved all of it. When they were going down the slide he asked her if he should slow down, and she wanted him to go faster.

It made our summer great to have these fun vacations with our families. We are lucky to have such wonderful families.
