August Update

Since it's the last day of September I thought I better post about our final month of summer. Our summers are always so fun and packed that I found it easier to go back and write about the whole month.

The month started out great with our Davis family vacation to Park City. Then the next weekend we went camping with our friends The McCormick's. We had a great overnighter up on Monte Cristo. I didn't know the intent of this camping trip was a scouting mission for the husbands. We drove for about two hours to find a camping spot, which we finally had to stop before the destination because our kids needed out of the car. Then right after camp was set up the boys were off to go scouting for the archery elk hunt. So being the rugged outdoors kind of woman I am and utilizing all the wealth of knowledge from previous girls camps Shelly and I made a great tepee fire. The guys were so impressed, they had no idea they were so lucky to be married to such wonderful wifes. So by the time the guys got back we had a great fire going and had some delicious smores. Then we were lucky enough to get all the kids to bed and stay up and have some adult conversation.

The next morning the guys got a very early start to do some more scouting. So Shelly and I put our skills to the test to start breakfast on the camp chef. I was proud to say that we got a great breakfast started using both the camp chef and the dutch ovens. Then after breakfast the guys were back and so we all went on a hike. The kids thought it was great. Abby even walked the whole way. I guess after all the hikes we have done this summer she was getting pretty good at it. Then we went back to camp had lunch then packed up.

There was a little swamping pond next to our campground and the kids had a blast searching for slugs. So gross!

But what hunting trip wouldn't be complete without target shooting. So not only did the guys practice with their bows, but we all got in on the action. Lex brought a hand gun, so we all practiced a little target shooting.

In August Bryce celebrated his 33rd birthday. When I asked what he wanted to do he said something with the kids. So we had a drive inn movie in our backyard. The kids made their own cars from cardboard boxes and they had to drive them to the movie. Then Bryce set up the TV and everything outside so we could watch Sandlot. I think Ben had seen it once before, but he loved it. He was laughing so hard.

And for his gift Bryce was surprised by a "some assembly required" kinda gift. So he had to put together his own patio set, but he secretly enjoyed it. And the end result was great. We love it and can't wait to put it and the new house.

Then for a final end of summer bang my parents took all of us to the zoo the Monday before school started. It was perfect weather and since most districts were back in school it wasn't crowded at all. The kids love the zoo no matter how many times we go. The only draw back is Ben is very intent that we follow the exact same path and walk the same way and see the same things at the same place. He was so funny if anyone wanted to look to skip looking at something or look at something else first. I don't know where he gets it from but it was a little OCD. But after we worked out our route it was great. Grace kept falling behind the pack because she wanted to pick up all the rocks on the path. The only problem was that the rocks are actually part of the asphalt walkway. She was getting so annoyed that she couldn't pick up the rocks she wanted. My dad was so patient and hung back with her and let her try her hardest to pick up the rocks.

Then with school starting to finish off our month, I would call it a complete success!! We had a great summer!!
